Considering installing an island in your kitchen? Before you make that decision, check out The Rudy. Can’t install an island in your kitchen because of the HOA or landlord? Also, check out The Randall. This kitchen island table is stylish, functional, environmentally-friendly, and best of all, it won’t require a moment of construction in your home. With three levels, and wine racks to boot, this custom designed island is perfect for both large and small Los Angeles homes.

For the countertop and storage areas we used locally-fallen Ash that was otherwise bound for a landfill. We made the kitchen prep/dining area using a 1.5 inch, butcher-block style. Besides the strength and durability this construction method adds, the alternating pattern of dark and light grains makes for a stunning appearance. We opted to go with face-grain shelves to present wide portions of the Ash that allows you to see the natural beauty of the grain. All wood, shelves and top, get finished with a hard-wax oil that preserves and protects, making this kitchen island table one that will last.

Don’t ignore the ebony-finish, floating wine racks that can hold and display up to 14 bottles of your favorite vintage. This alone will clear up storage space in another part of your kitchen or home!

We offset the bright white of the Ash with a base of 1.5 inch, black powder coated steel tube. The base is a simple design, 6 legs, irregularly spaced to highlight the area for wine storage. Underneath it all lies an X that cross-braces, stabilizes, and strengthens the table.

Like we said, if you wanted a kitchen island that can do it all, you just found it!

our urban hardwoods
sycamore, elm & ash

These sustainable planks come from non-farmed trees that recently fell in our metropolitan environment. Local urban-lumber milling companies such as Angel City Lumber and Street Tree Revival will retrieve them and turn them into beautiful dimensional lumber, rather than allowing them to be sent to landfills. We've fostered excellent relationships with these organizations (noble, good-looking heroes whom we love dearly), so they'll call us when the newest batches are about to be dried and milled.

Our Reclaimed Wood
Old-growth Doug fir

We respect the use of all reclaimed wood, but at Parkman we only use salvaged lumber from Los Angeles County structures that were built about 100 years ago or more. This old-growth wood is derived from ancient trees that, thankfully, are no longer being deforested. We prefer this sustainable lumber due to its natural durability and beauty. Conversely, most furniture wood these days comes from farms that cut their crop young, leaving the lumber comparatively soft and bland. These farms also use massive amounts of energy and water, unnecessarily damaging the global environment.

& fair wages

We perform all of our woodwork and metalwork in our Los Angeles workshop so that we can personally oversee every aspect of your build. Most shops you'll come across simply design and market products, but don't actually build any furniture, preferring to outsource the physical work to cheaper white-label shops. We lean into the entire process, from inception to inspection, and pay fair wages with benefits to our expert craftspeople.

Don't take our word for it

I am lucky to have found them. My partner and I went to check out the workshop and were met with great customer service, which persisted throughout the process.

For a similar cost to a mid-tier retailer you can get a fully custom piece made just for you, with reclaimed wood you can feel great about. Super happy with it!
