Warranty

Last updated October 8, 2026

We build furniture to be used hard and handed down. The joinery is cut to hold for a few generations and the hardware is the kind you can take apart and put back together with an Allen wrench twenty times without stripping anything. If something we built fails anyway, we will make it right. Here is exactly what that means.

What is covered

For furniture used in a home, we warrant the structure and joinery of your piece for three years from the date of delivery or pickup. For furniture used in a commercial space (restaurants, offices, lobbies, hotels, retail and anywhere else a piece gets daily use from the public or a staff), the same coverage runs for one year. Where the piece lives decides which term applies, so a designer who buys a dining table for a client's home gets the residential term.

Structure and joinery means the parts that hold the piece together and hold it up. That includes glue joints between boards opening up, mortise and tenon or other joinery coming loose, legs, aprons, stretchers and bases cracking or failing under normal use and the threaded inserts, bolts and brackets we install to connect them. If a drawer slide or hinge we installed stops working during the warranty period, we will replace it too.

This warranty covers the original purchaser and does not transfer if you sell or give the piece away.

Highly customized projects built under a separate Time and Materials agreement are governed by that agreement. Where that agreement does not address warranty, this policy applies.

What we will do

We will repair the piece, replace the failed component or replace the whole piece, whichever makes the most sense. We decide which, and we will talk it through with you first. Any repaired or replaced piece is covered for the rest of the original warranty period.

Here is how transport works. If your piece weighs under 250 pounds and is located in Los Angeles County, we cover transport to our shop and back. For heavier pieces, and for pieces anywhere else in the country, we will either send a qualified local furniture repair professional at our expense or, if the piece needs to come back to our shop, split the round trip freight evenly with you. We choose the approach based on what will give you the best repair.

What is not covered

The finish. We finish most pieces in hard wax oil because it feels like wood under your hand and because you can fix it yourself with a rag and a tin. The tradeoff is that it wears. Scratches, dents, heat marks, dulling, color change and the general patina of a table that gets used are not defects and are not covered. Our care instructions explain what the finish will and will not put up with, including the 30 day cure period, and following them is the best way to keep a piece looking the way it did on delivery day. We are happy to walk you through a touch up, and we offer refinishing as a paid service.

Some indoor pieces, including most of our reclaimed Douglas fir furniture, are finished in a water based conversion varnish instead. It is a tougher coating, and it is still a finish, so the same rules apply. Powder coating on steel bases and frames is a finish as well. Surface scratches and chips in it are not covered, and we can renew or recolor a powder coated frame at cost.

Outdoor furniture. Sun, rain, sprinklers, salt air and a hundred other things we cannot predict act on outdoor pieces in ways no wood or finish can fully resist. We build outdoor furniture to last and we will tell you how to care for it, but it carries no warranty of any kind, regardless of the species or finish used.

Seasonal wood movement. Solid wood takes on and gives off moisture with the seasons, and it moves when it does. Hairline cracks and small checks, typically up to 1/16 inch, slight cupping or bowing, gaps opening at breadboard ends or between boards, grain raising, knots and voids shifting and color changing with light and age are all normal behavior for a solid wood piece and are not covered. A crack that compromises the structure of the piece is a different matter and is covered under structure and joinery above. We recommend keeping your furniture in a space held between 30 and 50 percent relative humidity, with a humidifier in dry months or a dehumidifier in humid ones if that is what it takes. Damage from sustained humidity or temperature outside that range, or from placing a piece near a heat vent, fireplace or radiator or in direct sunlight, is not covered.

Natural variation. Every board is different. Color, grain, figure, mineral streaks, sapwood and small knots will vary from the photos on our site and from piece to piece. If that variation is a problem, solid wood is not the right material, and we would rather tell you now.

Everything else you would expect. Accidents, misuse, pets, moving the piece yourself, dragging it across a floor, standing on it, modifying it, using an indoor piece outdoors, water damage, fire and anything caused by a contractor or installer who is not us. Damage during delivery is handled as a shipping claim rather than under this warranty, so note any damage with the driver and send us photos within 72 hours of delivery. Floors, walls and other property are not covered. Items sold as is, floor models and samples are not covered. Materials you supply are not covered.

How to make a claim

The fine print

This is a limited warranty. Repair or replacement as described above is your sole and exclusive remedy, and Parkman Woodworks is not liable for incidental or consequential damages, including loss of use, inconvenience or the cost of substitute furniture. For residential purchases, any implied warranties, including the implied warranty of merchantability, are limited to the duration of this written warranty to the extent allowed by law. For commercial purchases, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts or the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the limitations above may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
