How long will my order take?

Most standard pieces will be completed in 8 to 10 weeks from the date of deposit, or 6 to 8 weeks for smaller, simple items. Larger, more complex or custom pieces can generally take from 12 to 16 weeks. If you're interested in placing a larger order please let us know beforehand so we can adjust the quoted timeline as needed. The clock begins when the deposit is placed, so if you'd like to start as soon as possible but haven't quite ironed out the details of a custom order, that's just fine. Your piece will be placed in a queue and we can nail down the specifics in the following days or weeks.

How much is the deposit?

50% of the total for most commissions.

You can purchase standard items directly through our site with a 50% deposit or full payment. For customized orders we'll e-mail an invoice and payment link, through which payments can be placed by bank transfer for free, or via credit/debit card with a 3% processing fee.

Do you offer rush fees?

Yes, when we're able, but there will always be a fee associated. Please inquire via e-mail or phone.

Can I return the piece after it's built or delivered?

We'll certainly fix or replace the order if we've gotten something wrong. We cannot, however, accept returns if you've changed your mind about an item. Each piece is made to order just for you, so once we've started building, it's yours. Please also remember that your furniture is built from natural materials, so there will be noticeable variation from piece to piece. We always choose lumber of the highest possible quality, but if variance in color, grain pattern or other factors is unacceptable to you, we suggest that you not purchase solid wood furniture.

Do you offer delivery?

For local deliveries we work with one trusted shipping company who knows our furniture inside and out. Local delivery is white glove, meaning it will be set up and placed precisely where you'd like. Delivery in Los Angeles County is $250 for standard orders, or $350 to surrounding counties. Larger pieces or orders will increase the cost. Shipping outside of Southern California but within the contiguous U.S. is typically between $400 and $700 for standard items, though there are exceptions for particularly remote destinations and for large items or orders. Non-local delivery drivers often ride alone, so they'll generally need physical assistance from you or someone on-site to get the item into place.

Can I pick up from your shop?

Local pickup is free of charge and we'll help you load your furniture into your vehicle. You're required to bring blankets and tie-downs so that your new piece isn't damaged in transit. We are not responsible for furniture after it leaves our shop, even if we assist you with the load-in process.

Do the legs or bases detach from the wood?

In most cases we drive threaded inserts into the wood and use bolts to connect the tabletops to the legs or bases. The bolts are easily removed and reinstalled with a standard Allen wrench as many times as necessary without stripping the wood. Our shippers are very good at fitting furniture into tight spaces, but if you are unsure whether a piece will make it, please ask us before placing your order. You are ultimately responsible for getting your furniture into place. If your piece requires modification, you are responsible for all associated costs, including deliveries.

Will the legs or bases scrape up my floors?

We attach plastic or felt pads to the bottom of all of our furniture. The pads are attached by screws or strong adhesive, but it's best to double check that they're secured before sliding your furniture. It's always recommended to pick up your furniture rather than slide it. Parkman Woodworks is not responsible for damage to your floors or property.

How heavy is my furniture?

Most of our furniture can be slid across the floor by one person, or picked up by two able-bodied people. Our dining tables, for instance, generally weigh between 125 and 175 lbs. Furniture with metal bases or frames is generally lighter than all-wood pieces.

These sustainable planks come from non-farmed trees that recently fell in our metropolitan environment. Local urban-lumber milling companies such as Angel City Lumber and Street Tree Revival will retrieve them and turn them into beautiful dimensional lumber, rather than allowing them to be sent to landfills. We've fostered excellent relationships with these organizations (noble, good-looking heroes whom we love dearly), so they'll call us when the newest batches are about to be dried and milled.

Our Reclaimed Wood

Old-growth Doug fir

We respect the use of all reclaimed wood, but at Parkman we only use salvaged lumber from Los Angeles County structures that were built about 100 years ago or more. This old-growth wood is derived from ancient trees that, thankfully, are no longer being deforested. We prefer this sustainable lumber due to its natural durability and beauty. Conversely, most furniture wood these days comes from farms that cut their crop young, leaving the lumber comparatively soft and bland. These farms also use massive amounts of energy and water, unnecessarily damaging the global environment.

We perform all of our woodwork and metalwork in our Los Angeles workshop so that we can personally oversee every aspect of your build. Most shops you'll come across simply design and market products, but don't actually build any furniture, preferring to outsource the physical work to cheaper white-label shops. We lean into the entire process, from inception to inspection, and pay fair wages with benefits to our expert craftspeople.
