White glove delivery within Los Angeles Count ranges from $150 to $350 for most items under 150 pounds, based upon the distance from our workshop, the size of your piece, and the load-in scenario.

National shipping ranges from $400 to $600 for most items under 150 pounds. National shipping is partial white-glove, meaning the shipper will help arrange the furniture items into your space, but will require assistance from you or another person who is on site.

First impressions carry weight and this fluted wood reception desk establishes its presence, creating the kind of entry experience that makes people pause and take notice.

The sculptural form stretches horizontally with rounded ends that soften what could have been a rigid statement. The continuous radius edge flows around the entire perimeter in one seamless movement, creating a silhouette that reads as both architectural and approachable. That tension between formality and welcome defines spaces worth remembering.

The desk's namesake, Yelena Blavatsky, was the founder of the Theosophical Society in 1875.  She rejected both conventional religion and materialist science while weaving together Eastern philosophy with Western esotericism into something entirely her own. Her books sparked cultural shockwaves that rippled through intellectual circles worldwide. She championed hidden knowledge and occult power when polite society insisted on empirical proof and orthodox faith, creating a countercultural movement that challenged how people understood reality itself.

The vertical fluting that wraps the entire base transforms solid mass into rhythmic pattern. Those repeated grooves catch light differently throughout the day, creating depth and visual movement that keeps the piece from feeling static. The fluting continues around the curved corners with precision that reveals the handwork involved, concealing structural weight while celebrating the wood's natural character.

This modern front desk works in environments where aesthetic matters as much as function. The light oak construction brings warmth without overwhelming interiors, making it equally effective in minimalist corporate lobbies or high-end residential foyers. The matte finish maintains the tactile quality of natural wood rather than coating it in synthetic gloss.

The generous overhang provides practical workspace while the bullnose edge profile repeats the rounded geometry below. Every surface connects to create visual continuity that elevates the piece beyond standard reception furniture.

Each board comes from trees that fell naturally around Los Angeles, carrying decades of California growth in grain patterns shaped by actual seasons rather than forced cultivation. The natural matte finish protects without hiding the subtle variations that make wood worth working with.

Our Los Angeles workshop approaches custom reception desks as individual commissions rather than production runs. The skill required to maintain fluting alignment around compound curves and create seamless corner transitions separates craft from manufacturing.

This salon reception desk adapts to spaces where people need to feel welcomed immediately. The sculptural base creates visual interest from any angle while the clean top maintains professional functionality. The fluted texture provides enough detail to anchor larger rooms without competing with existing architecture.

The piece transcends typical hospitality furniture by combining warmth with restraint. It makes arrival feel intentional rather than transactional.

Rebellion sometimes requires creating entirely new frameworks for understanding.

our urban hardwoods
sycamore, elm & ash

These sustainable planks come from non-farmed trees that recently fell in our metropolitan environment. Local urban-lumber milling companies such as Angel City Lumber and Street Tree Revival will retrieve them and turn them into beautiful dimensional lumber, rather than allowing them to be sent to landfills. We've fostered excellent relationships with these organizations (noble, good-looking heroes whom we love dearly), so they'll call us when the newest batches are about to be dried and milled.

Our Reclaimed Wood
Old-growth Doug fir

We respect the use of all reclaimed wood, but at Parkman we only use salvaged lumber from Los Angeles County structures that were built about 100 years ago or more. This old-growth wood is derived from ancient trees that, thankfully, are no longer being deforested. We prefer this sustainable lumber due to its natural durability and beauty. Conversely, most furniture wood these days comes from farms that cut their crop young, leaving the lumber comparatively soft and bland. These farms also use massive amounts of energy and water, unnecessarily damaging the global environment.

& fair wages

We perform all of our woodwork and metalwork in our Los Angeles workshop so that we can personally oversee every aspect of your build. Most shops you'll come across simply design and market products, but don't actually build any furniture, preferring to outsource the physical work to offshore or lower quality white label shops. We lean into the entire process, from inception to inspection, and pay fair wages with benefits to our expert craftspeople.
