White glove delivery within Los Angeles Count ranges from $150 to $350 for most items under 150 pounds, based upon the distance from our workshop, the size of your piece, and the load-in scenario.

National shipping ranges from $400 to $600 for most items under 150 pounds. National shipping is partial white-glove, meaning the shipper will help arrange the furniture items into your space, but will require assistance from you or another person who is on site.

The Alcove solves the dumbest problem in modern bedrooms, which is that you own a beautiful bed and still have a phone charger snaking across the floor like it owns the place. This is a low solid wood platform bed with the nightstands built right into the headboard, and outlets built into the nightstands. Everything has a home. Nothing dangles.

The headboard runs the full width of the bed and a touch past it, with a recessed alcove cut into each end. Each one holds a floating shelf, sized for a book, a water glass, and a lamp, and lands exactly where your hand goes when you grope around at 2am. The tables are not bolted on as an afterthought. They are part of the bed, cut from the same boards as the headboard, so the whole thing reads as one piece instead of a frame wearing accessories.

Tucked into the back of each cubby is a bronze-plated outlet with two American plugs and two USB ports. Phone, reading lamp, watch charger, the sound machine you pretend you do not need. All of it runs off the headboard, and the cords route down through the frame and disappear. You wake up charged and the shelf stays clear.

You pick the wood, and it matters more than people expect. Black walnut runs warm and chocolate-dark with that restless, rolling grain that makes every board look like weather. White oak is pale, tight, and quietly architectural. Ash is bright and open and takes light beautifully. Fallen elm is our favorite to build in, milled from local urban trees that came down on their own, never the same twice, and a little wild in the figure. Whichever you choose, the frame is built top to bottom in that one species.

The construction is honest box-frame work with a small lip around the top edge that gives the platform some weight on the floor and frames the mattress like it meant to. The headboard rests on top of the frame rather than bolting through it, which keeps the lines clean and lets the joinery show where joinery should. We finish every surface by hand in a hard-wax oil that sinks into the grain instead of sitting on it, so the wood still feels like wood. Scuff it in five years and you fix it with a rag and a little more oil. No stripping, no refinishing, no specialist.

Maple slats come included and sized to your mattress. Set the mattress down and you are done. No box spring to hunt for, no foundation, no second trip.

Standard sizes are Queen, King, Cal King, and Alaskan King. Sleep on something stranger, an oversized custom mattress, an odd vintage size, a wider build for two people and a dog, and we cut the frame to fit it. Send the size and the species.

Every Alcove is made to order in our Los Angeles shop from American hardwood, joined by hand, and built to outlast the room. Heavy the way good furniture is heavy.

our urban hardwoods
sycamore, elm, ash & eucalyptus

These sustainable planks come from non-farmed trees that fell in our local neighborhoods. Local urban-lumber milling companies turn them into beautiful dimensional lumber, rather than allowing them to be sent to landfills. We've fostered excellent relationships with these organizations (noble, good-looking heroes whom we love dearly), so they'll call us when the newest batches are about to be dried and milled.

Our Reclaimed Wood
Old-growth Doug fir

We respect the use of all reclaimed wood, but at Parkman we only use salvaged lumber from Los Angeles County structures that were built about 100 years ago or more. This old-growth wood is derived from ancient trees that, thankfully, are no longer being deforested. We prefer this sustainable lumber due to its natural durability and beauty. Conversely, most furniture wood these days comes from farms that cut their crop young, leaving the lumber comparatively soft and bland. These farms also use massive amounts of energy and water, unnecessarily damaging the global environment.

in-house fabrication

& fair wages

We perform all of woodwork and metalwork in our Los Angeles workshop so that we can personally oversee every aspect of your build. Most shops you'll come across simply design and market products, but don't actually build any furniture, preferring to outsource the physical work to offshore or lower quality white-label shops. We lean into the entire process, from inception to inspection, and pay fair wages with benefits to our expert craftspeople.
