Tables anchor the rituals that define daily life. This modern wood dining table transforms those moments into something worth noticing, combining sculptural presence with the kind of craftsmanship that makes guests run their hands along the edges.

The racetrack dining table silhouette stretches horizontally with fully rounded ends that eliminate visual tension. That elongated oval creates natural flow around the perimeter, encouraging conversation to move rather than stagnate in corners. The proportions read as generous without dominating rooms, striking the balance between statement piece and functional furniture.

William B. Travis drew a line in the sand at the Alamo in 1836, asking every man willing to fight for freedom to step across it. As commander of Texian forces facing impossible odds, his rebellion took the form of absolute defiance against centralized authority. His letter declaring "Victory or Death" galvanized the independence movement even as he knew the battle was already lost. That willingness to stand for principle when surrender made tactical sense defines rebellion at its most uncompromising.

The two semi-cylindrical pedestal bases anchor the table through sculptural geometry rather than conventional legs. Those curved planes maximize legroom while creating visual rhythm that echoes the tabletop's contours. The symmetrical placement provides stability without visual clutter, keeping sightlines clean across the dining space.

The bullnose edge flows continuously around the entire perimeter in one smooth, deeply rounded profile. That tactile detail invites touch while catching light throughout the day, revealing the precision required to maintain consistency across compound curves. The substantial thickness feels grounded without reading as heavy, balancing presence with refinement.

Available in light natural oak or ebonized ash, each high end dining table begins with lumber rescued from trees that fell naturally around Los Angeles. The grain runs the full length of the top in continuous patterns shaped by decades of California climate rather than controlled growing conditions. The matte finish protects without coating the wood in synthetic gloss that would obscure those natural variations.

Our Los Angeles workshop selects boards that work harmoniously in tone and grain pattern, then shapes them into forms that honor the material's origin while serving contemporary needs. The skill required to create seamless curves in solid wood separates this sculptural dining table from production furniture that relies on veneers and shortcuts.

The racetrack shape accommodates dinner parties and work sessions with equal ease. The pedestal base allows chairs to slide in from any angle without hitting table legs, making seating flexible rather than predetermined. That practical consideration emerged from the form rather than being imposed on it.

This piece works in spaces where aesthetic drives decisions as much as function. The organic modernism translates across interior styles because it prioritizes material honesty and proportional balance over trend-dependent details.

Standing for something sometimes requires rejecting what everyone else accepts as inevitable.

our urban hardwoods
sycamore, elm & ash

These sustainable planks come from non-farmed trees that recently fell in our metropolitan environment. Local urban-lumber milling companies such as Angel City Lumber and Street Tree Revival will retrieve them and turn them into beautiful dimensional lumber, rather than allowing them to be sent to landfills. We've fostered excellent relationships with these organizations (noble, good-looking heroes whom we love dearly), so they'll call us when the newest batches are about to be dried and milled.

Our Reclaimed Wood
Old-growth Doug fir

We respect the use of all reclaimed wood, but at Parkman we only use salvaged lumber from Los Angeles County structures that were built about 100 years ago or more. This old-growth wood is derived from ancient trees that, thankfully, are no longer being deforested. We prefer this sustainable lumber due to its natural durability and beauty. Conversely, most furniture wood these days comes from farms that cut their crop young, leaving the lumber comparatively soft and bland. These farms also use massive amounts of energy and water, unnecessarily damaging the global environment.

in-house fabrication

& fair wages

We perform all of our woodwork and metalwork in our Los Angeles workshop so that we can personally oversee every aspect of your build. Most shops you'll come across simply design and market products, but don't actually build any furniture, preferring to outsource the physical work to offshore or lower quality white label shops. We lean into the entire process, from inception to inspection, and pay fair wages with benefits to our expert craftspeople.
