Low tables make everything better. Suddenly your living room becomes a place for floor cushions, board games that actually get finished, and conversations that last until someone realizes they should probably go home. This wooden Japandi coffee table sits just 14 inches off the ground, transforming how you use your space without requiring you to redecorate everything else.

Named after the Hi-Red Center, the rebellious Tokyo art collective that turned city streets into galleries and questioned who gets to decide what counts as art, this piece embodies that same spirit of quiet revolution. The group understood that the most powerful statements often come through subtle disruption rather than shouting.

The Japandi design philosophy meets subtle Brutalist influences in the chunky 2.5-inch thick top and legs that feel substantial without being overwhelming. This isn't delicate furniture that makes you nervous about setting down your coffee mug. It's built for real life, where spills happen and people actually use their furniture.

The wabi-sabi coffee table aesthetic celebrates imperfection and the natural aging process, which means every mark and patina spot just makes it more beautiful over time. Instead of worrying about keeping it pristine, you can relax and let it develop character alongside your daily routines.

Our craftspeople use traditional joinery techniques to set the split-top boards directly into the legs, creating connections that get stronger with age rather than looser. No metal hardware means no squeaks, rattles, or eventual joint failures that plague mass-produced furniture.

This Japanese low table emerges from solid lumber rescued from trees that fell naturally around Los Angeles. The wood carries stories from decades of California weather, transforming what would have been waste into something that grounds your living space.

The natural hard-wax oil finish feels smooth under your hands while protecting the wood from coffee rings and the occasional laptop session. Unlike lacquered surfaces that crack and peel, this finish actually improves with regular use and the occasional refresh.

Each piece starts with our team selecting boards that complement each other in grain and tone, ensuring your table feels cohesive while celebrating the unique character of each piece of wood. The low profile and substantial construction create a sense of stability that anchors whatever chaos your living room typically contains.

Because coffee tables that look like they're afraid of actual coffee defeats the whole purpose.

our urban hardwoods
sycamore, elm & ash

These sustainable planks come from non-farmed trees that recently fell in our metropolitan environment. Local urban-lumber milling companies such as Angel City Lumber and Street Tree Revival will retrieve them and turn them into beautiful dimensional lumber, rather than allowing them to be sent to landfills. We've fostered excellent relationships with these organizations (noble, good-looking heroes whom we love dearly), so they'll call us when the newest batches are about to be dried and milled.

Our Reclaimed Wood
Old-growth Doug fir

We respect the use of all reclaimed wood, but at Parkman we only use salvaged lumber from Los Angeles County structures that were built about 100 years ago or more. This old-growth wood is derived from ancient trees that, thankfully, are no longer being deforested. We prefer this sustainable lumber due to its natural durability and beauty. Conversely, most furniture wood these days comes from farms that cut their crop young, leaving the lumber comparatively soft and bland. These farms also use massive amounts of energy and water, unnecessarily damaging the global environment.

& fair wages

We perform all of our woodwork and metalwork in our Los Angeles workshop so that we can personally oversee every aspect of your build. Most shops you'll come across simply design and market products, but don't actually build any furniture, preferring to outsource the physical work to offshore or lower quality white label shops. We lean into the entire process, from inception to inspection, and pay fair wages with benefits to our expert craftspeople.
